PHILADELPHIA - Sometimes moving forward means pulling from the past, as the La Salle rowing program has done with its new oar design. The program is thrilled to debut oars painted with the retro style that was used during the La Salle rowing glory days of the 1950's when the Explorers won the Dad Vail Regatta.
The program would like to thank Jack Galloway '57 for donating the "Standard Blade" oar that will be hung in the erg room. The oar was used by the 1957 Dad Vail championship crew, and the blade has been engraved with the names of the 1957 Dad Vail championship varsity eight members, their coaches and the race results. The oar will serve as a centerpiece of a redecorated erg room, and will be surrounded by pictures of the team from the 1950's to current day.
"On behalf of the coaching staff and the student-athletes of La Salle University Rowing, I want to thank Jack Galloway, '57 for his donation of memorabilia to the program," Head Coach
Tom Madden said. "It will be great to have this oar from the 1957 Dad Vail Championship crew as a center piece in our erg room on campus. It has also provided the inspiration to go back to the team's original blade design moving forward."
With the addition of a large and experienced freshman recruiting class and a number of experienced returners, the La Salle rowing program is excited for its 2014-15 season and beyond.
