Men's Basketball Hosts Saint Peter's For Saturday Afternoon Matchup

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball team returns home as it hosts the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Saturday afternoon with tip scheduled for 12:30 at Tom Gola Arena.

Last Time Out
La Salle rallied for a 60-58 win over Quinnipiac on Tuesday night on the strength of 18 points from Jordan Price, including the game-winning free throws with 3.2 seconds left. Trailing by 10 midway through the second half, the Explorers used four three-pointers in a span of 90 seconds to take a two-point lead. Khalid Lewis had nine points while D.J. Peterson tied a career-high with eight points, including two threes during the 12-0 run. Cleon Roberts, Steve Zack (11 rebounds) and Amar Stukes each added seven points.

All-Time Series
The teams met 21 times from 1984-92 as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Saturday is the first meeting since a 65-52 victory for the Explorers at the Philadelphia Civic Center in 1992. La Salle currently holds a 13-8 advantage in the all-time series and is 7-2 at home.

Scouting the Explorers (2-0)
La Salle expects to feature one of the conference's top frontcourts, anchored by Atlantic 10 second-team preseason choice Jerrell Wright and third-team preseason selection Steve Zack. In the win over Quinnipiac, Zack grabbed 11 rebounds and added seven points and two blocks.  

Jordan Price led La Salle past the Bobcats with 18 points on the night, and leads the team with 13 points per game this season. He was aided by nine points from Khalid Lewis, who was  4-of-7 from the field. Amar Stukes and Cleon Roberts were key contributors off of the bench with each providing seven points and two assists.
 
The Explorers have turned up the heat defensively so far this season. They rank seventh in the nation limiting the opposition to just a .179 percentage from behind the arc and rank 13th in the nation with an opponent field goal percentage of .322. The team has forced 29 turnovers on the season, averaging 14.5 per game.

Scouting the Peacocks (0-3)
Saint Peter's has opened the year with two tough road losses, falling at Brown to open the season before a one-point loss at Hartford on Sunday. The Peacocks fell to Niagara, 61-59, on Thursday night. Saint Peter's returns four starters from last season's (14-17, 9-11) campaign and have been projected to finish fourth in the MAAC this season in.
 
Seniors Tyler Gaskins and Marvin Dominique and sophomores Trevis Wyche and Quadir Welton have started both games so far this season. Dominique, a transfer from Fordham, has led the way with 15 points per game while shooting 42.3 percent from the field. He has been a staple of the lineup, missing just five minutes of action through two games. Dominique also leads the team with 22 rebounds on the year.  Dominique appeared off the bench against La Salle during his sophomore season at Fordham, grabbing four rebounds and blocking a shot in six minutes of action. 
 
Welton and senior Desi Washington have each helped the scoring effort as they both are averaging 11 points per game this season for the Peacocks. Welton has shot an efficient 56 percent from the field while Washington has proved to be a threat from range, going 4-11 from three-point range on the year. Chazz Patterson added seven points and four rebounds in 14 minutes off the bench against Brown.
