Snee Places First in 50-Yard Freestyle in Preliminaries at A-10 Championships

GENEVA, Ohio - Katie Snee took the top time in the 50-yard freestyle preliminary on Thursday morning at the Atlantic 10 Championships, touching the wall at 23.39. The reigning A-10 silver medalist will look to find herself on the medal stand once again when she swims in the finals this evening.

Tanawan Sukonthapanich was the second Explorer to finish the 50-yard freestyle, posting a 24.07. She posted the exact time as Sloan Sanders from George Washington, requiring a swim-off which Sukonthapanich lost by six-hundredths of a second (24.05).

Five other Explorers competed in the event. Kaitlyn Hay swam a 24.12, coming in 19th while Sarah Finn notched a 24.21(PR), good for 22nd. Lianne McCluskey came in 31st (24.49), Chelsey Curran in 37th (24.65), and Kelsey Jenkinson in 50th (25.55).

Colleen Larkin and Greta Reichert both qualified for the finals in the 500-yard freestyle with top-six finishes. Larkin swam a 4:55.95, coming in fourth while Reichert placed sixth with a 4:55.94 (PR). Hayley Miles clocked a 5:03.54, good for 23rd in the 44-swimmer field.

Three Explorer women failed to qualify for the finals in the 200-yard individual medley. Amina Wilson posted La Salle's top time with a 2:08.63, finishing 28th. Julia Mann (2:13.52) and Megan Baylis (2:15.85) came in 43rd and 44th, respectively in the 47-swimmer field.

On the 1-meter diving board, Paige Frishkorn (210.50) and Shauna Hannings (202.05) came in ninth and 10th, respectively. Dahlia Gordon registered a 181.60, good for 13th.

Snee, Larkin, and Reichert will swim in their respective event finals this evening beginning at 6:30 PM.
