ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Meghan McGlinchey ran a 17:07.87 in the 5000 meter run on Friday evening at the NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center, finishing 15
th while achieving Second-Team All-American status.
The senior becomes just the second Explorer female in history to earn an All-American distinction, joining Theresa Carroll. Carroll was also named to the second-team after placing 14
th in the one mile run at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 1998.
Abbey D'Agostino placed first in Friday evening's 5k championship, crossing the finish line at 16:20.39. A pair of Stanford runners, Aisling Cuffe (16:22.48) and Kathy Kroeger (16:23.34) placed second and third, respectively.
Friday's performance from McGlinchey put the finishing touches on a spectacular indoor season. The senior broke a pair of Atlantic 10 Conference Championships records in the 5k (16:27.58) and 3k (9:28.43) on February 22-23 and was named most Outstanding Female Track Performer. On December 7, she annihilated La Salle's 5k record with a 15:46.50 at the Jack Pyrah Invitational, the fifth-fastest time in the nation this season.
She was one of only three female A-10 athletes to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships and was La Salle's first NCAA indoor qualifier since ToniAnn Razzi in 2000 (1500m).Â
