Women’s Track & Field Claims Two First Place Finishes at Stony Brook Quad Meet

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Shanice Johnson and the 4x800 meter relay team both notched first place finishes on Saturday afternoon at the Stony Brook Quad Meet to highlight the day for the La Salle women's track and field team.  

Johnson placed first in the long jump, besting the 13-competitor field with a 5.17m leap. She was the only athlete to break the 5-meter barrier in the event.

The 4x800 meter "A" relay team (Kate Conville, Sara Dever, Shannon Dwyer, Chelsea Harris) claimed first place in the event with a 10:03.82. The "B" team (Rebecca Scardelletti, Kaylie McNally, Ines Simoes, Alex Guntle) came in third, combining for a 10:39.22.

Anne Areias clocked a personal best in the 1500 meter run, crossing the finish line third with a 4:53.28. Later in the afternoon, she finished fifth in the 3000 meter run, posting a 10:28.01. Molly Mickle ran a PR in the 1500 meter run with a 5:16.38, good for 18th. Katie Boligitz timed a career-best 11:20.97 in the 3000 meter run and finished eighth.

Harris ran the top Explorer time in the 300 meter dash with a 44.33, coming in seventh. Rochelle Harrison (46.51), Christa Strycharz (49.72), and Kirra Meertens (50.75) finished 11th, 15th, and 17th, respectively. 

The Explorers will compete next weekend in split squad action at the Stanford Invitational, Sam Howell Princeton Invitational, and Colonial Relays.
