Complete ResultsPHILADELPHIA - The men's varsity eight finished fourth in its heat to lead a quintet of La Salle boats racing in the Kerr Cup on the Schuylkill River this weekend. Along with the men's V8, the Explorers fielded a men's pair for the first time this season, along with a women's varsity eight, women's second varsity eight and women's four.
The men's V8 clocked a 6:05.54, finishing fourth out of six boats, and just one spot out of advancing to the final. Villanova won the heat in 5:51.61, followed by Washington College (5:52.99) and Fordham (5:54.89), which all advanced. The Explorers topped Franklin & Marshall (6:07.47) and Haverford (6:51.11).
The men's pair finished sixth in its heat with a time of 8:35.16 in its season debut. Drexel won in 7:09.33, followed by Philadelphia U (7:15.34), New York Maritime (7:19.84), Lafayette (7:32.44) and Washington College (7:45.55).
On the women's side, the V8 finished fifth in its heat with a time of 6:47.70. Drexel won in 6:21 flat, followed by Lehigh (6:26.48), Fordham (6:27.84) and Franklin & Marshall (6:34.74).
The second varsity eight raced in a final, as only four schools had entries. The Explorers finished fourth by clocking 6:59.86. Fordham won the race in 6:24.52, followed by Drexel (6:29.59) and Lehigh (6:35.23).
Rounding out the five Explorer boats was the varsity four, which finished fifth in its heat with a time of 8:02.50. Drexel won in 7:17.71, followed by Villanova (7:25.18), Richmond (7:27.93) and Fordham (7:30.55).
The Explorers return to the river next weekend for the annual Bergen & Kelly Cups on the Schuylkill River.
