BOSTON – Senior forward Kelsey Haycook netted the game-winning goal in double overtime to lift the La Salle women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Northeastern on Sunday afternoon, setting the Explorers all-time scoring record in the process.

The goal was the 41st of Haycook's career, pushing her past La Salle greats Amy Schneider (1999-2002) and Renee Washington (2010-2013) into sole possession of the all-time scoring mark.

"I'm thrilled that Kelsey's hard work, attitude and perseverance is paying off," said head coach Paul Royal. "A special congratulations to Kelsey as well as her teammates for helping her reach such an amazing accomplishment."

The Point Pleasant, N.J. native handled a feed from senior midfielder Gabriella Carbone before punching the ball off the crossbar and into the net from the left wing just 1:02 into the second overtime period to give the Explorers their first win of the season.

The Huskies attack was relentless on the afternoon, putting six shots on goal in the game, but La Salle goalkeeper Jessica Wiggins didn't miss a save opportunity. The senior collected six saves while keeping the Huskies out of the net for the entire 101:02 with the help of a stingy La Salle defense.

"I thought our defense had an exceptional weekend," Royal added."I was really happy with our ability to eliminate quality chances as well as doing a much better job this afternoon with defending set pieces."

Junior Jessika Kagan, who scored the Explorers lone goal on Friday night, fired a team-high three shots (one on goal) in another strong performance.

"It was a huge win for us after such a heartbreaking loss on Friday night," said Royal. "It was great to see our leadership step up and get the rest of the girls believing again."

The Explorers look to keep the momentum going on Friday as they host the University of Washington for their home opener at McCarthy Stadium at 7 p.m.
