Scouting the Explorers...The Explorers are coming off of back-to-back nonconference wins as the squad defeated Villanova 2-1 last Wednesday before a thrilling 3-2 double overtime comeback win over Rider on Saturday. Five different Explorers scored each goal, including collegiate firsts by
Kendall Kreider (game winner vs. Villanova) and
Sophie Lozowski (game-tying goal vs. Rider). Defender
Olivia Leaman sank the game winner against Rider with just 25 seconds remaining in the second overtime to prevent the squads from going to a penalty stroke shootout.
The Explorers received recognition for those two wins as Lozowski earned both Atlantic 10 and ECAC Rookie of the Week and
Rachel Hartman was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week. In addition to Lozowski's game-tying goal against Rider, she assisted on Kreider's game winner over Villanova while defensively helping limit the Wildcats to just four second half shots. Hartman made 20 saves in those two contests and sported a .870 save percentage. She made eight saves in the two extra sessions including several two-on-one attempts to help lift the Explorers over the Broncs.
Four different Explorers have a goal and assist each on the season to lead offensively, including Lozowski,
Maddy Tettelbach,
Juliana Carfagno and
Abbey Lawrence. The squad is starting to gel offensively, as the Explorers scored five goals in the last two games compared to one goal in their first three.
Hartman is anchoring the La Salle defense as the sophomore goalkeeper tops the Atlantic 10 and ranks 10th nationally with a sterling .827 save percentage. She also leads the league and ranks fourth nationally with 8.60 saves per game, while sporting a 1.66 goals against average.
Scouting the WildcatsDavidson looks to snap a two-game skid as the Wildcats fell 3-0 to Wake Forest and 3-2 in overtime to Appalachian State. The 'Cats lone win of the season was a 2-1 victory over Rider on Sept. 6.
Becca Jones leads the squad offensively with seven points on three goals and one assist. A trio of other Wildcats have one goal each this season and three more have recorded at least one assist.
The Wildcats have given up 14 goals this season while scoring just six and have been outshot 71-46. They have also given up 34 corners to their own 21.
Emily Leytham has started all five games and played all but 35 minutes of the season in goal. She is recording a .727 save percentage while yielding 3.30 goals per game. Connie Cape played 35 minutes in relief, yielding two goals in that span.
Next UpThe Explorers head on the road next weekend, with games at Lock Haven (Friday 9/26; 3pm) and Towson (Sunday 9/28; 1pm).
