PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Redshirt sophomore P.J. Acierno continued to impress after a year away from competition, shooting a 70-74=144 (+2) to lead the La Salle men's golf team after 36 holes at the Rutgers Invitational on Friday. He is tied for 12th in the 95-player field. La Salle is tied for 10th as a team after a two-round score of 299-300=599 (+31).
"Today gave us a nice confidence boost after Colgate," head coach
Brad Kane said. "Everyone played pretty well and had some nice runs. It might be hard to move up a lot of spots tomorrow but we're focused on another solid round."
Acierno has now paced the Explorers in all four rounds this season. He was consistent throughout the two rounds, posting 26 pars, good for third most in the field.
The rest of the team are bunched within the +8 to +12 range. Senior
Justin Smith carded a 74-76=150 (+8) and is tied for 38th. Classmate
Greg Goodreds shot a 77-75=152 (+10) and is tied for 54th. Sophomore
Joe Markmann (76-77=153, +11) and graduate student
Tonny Aizpun (77-77=154, +12) are tied for 56th and 62nd, respectively.
Host Rutgers leads the field at three-over. One shot back is Fairfield (+4), followed by Wagner (+9), Wofford (+10) and Hofstra (+11).
 Eight players are under par, led by Fairfield's Steve Burak (-8). Wagner's Anton Frondelius and Rutgers' Jacob Stockl are both one shot back.
