RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The La Salle men's soccer team collected their third straight victory on Friday night, a 1-0 overtime decision over Manhattan College at Gaelic Park, thanks to
Colman Kennedy's game-winning goal in the 97
th minute.
Freshman
Mike Liska sent a corner into the center of the box, which
Joe Farrell distributed to Kennedy. The freshman then deposited the ball into the lower right corner of the net to give the Explorers their first overtime win this season.
Goalkeeper
Mike Kirk recorded four saves to preserve an opportunity for the Explorers to come away with the win. Manhattan's keeper Alex Coates McDowall was near perfect, recording a game-high five saves for the Jaspers (1-4-1) before Kennedy found the back of the net in extra time.
The Blue and Gold (3-4-1) made a strong showing in the offensive third, rattling off a barrage of 22 shots in the game and controlling corner kicks 10-4. Eleven different Explorers recorded a shot in the contest.
The Explorers look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday as they visit the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m.
