BURLINGTON, Vt.-Freshman Johnny Ciarlante scored in the 89^th minute to bring La Salle within a goal but the Explorers couldn't find the equalizer in the final 89 seconds in a 2-1 loss to Vermont on Friday in the opening game of the Windjammer Classic.

Ciarlante's first career goal came on a corner kick from Bobby Briggs, which the William Tennent product headed past the keeper towards the far post. La Salle fired six shots in the game, four of which landed on target.

Vermont (3-0) took a 2-0 lead after a goal in the 30^th minute of the first half and another in the 50^th minute of the second half. Vermont's second goal came on a penalty kick by Brad Cole. The Catamounts took a total of seven shots on the evening.

The Explorers (0-2) will finish up in the Windjammer Classic against UMass Lowell on Sunday morning at 11 AM.
