HAMILTON, N.Y. - The La Salle golf team had a tough day on Sunday in the third and final round of the Colgate Invitational, shooting a 322 (+34) to finish 14th in the season-opening event at Seven Oaks Golf Club. Four players shot between 79-82, led by sophomore
Joe Markmann with a 79 (+7).
Redshirt sophomore P.J. Acierno was the top Explorer to finish (T-25) with a 73-77-82=232 (+16). Markmann was next in a tie for 46th with his 78-80-80=238 (+22).Â
Graduate student
Tonny Aizpun carded a 77-85-79=241 (+25) to tie for 56th while senior
Greg Goodreds had a 54-hole score of 84-79-87=250 (+34) and finished 71st.
Freshman
Brandon Raihl rounded out the La Salle lineup with a 87-84-81=252 (+36) to tie for 72nd.
Army (+9) beat host Colgate (+21) by 12 strokes for the team title. St. Bonaventure (+55) was third followed by Bucknell (+59) and Wagner (+59).
Colgate's Ryan Allison (-2) was the medalist, beating Army's Dean Sakata by one stroke.
The Explorers are off next weekend before traveling to Rutgers on September 19-20.
