Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

La Salle Stifles Fordham, 60-49

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball team cruised past the Fordham Rams 60-49 on Saturday afternoon at Tom Gola Arena.

Fordham's 49 points marks La Salle's lowest opponent point total since the Explorers held Massachusetts to 44 points in February of 2006. Fordham also shot just 31.7 percent from the field, the lowest since Robert Morris shot 28 percent on November 25, 2011.

The Explorers (10-8, 2-3 A-10) jumped out to a 14-0 lead to start the game, forcing five turnovers and holding the Rams scoreless over the first four minutes of the contest. Fordham finally got on the board with a Chris Sengfelder layup at the 16:00 minute mark.

La Salle never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 16 points. Redshirt sophomore Jordan Price scored a team-high 15 points, including eight points during La Salle's 17-2 run to open the game, finishing 5-for-9 from the floor with four rebounds and two assists.

"When you are winning and the other team can't score the team gets excited," said head coach Dr. John Giannini. "We try to feed on it."

Senior Jerrell Wright was pivotal to La Salle's quick start, scoring seven of the game's first 11 points. Wright finished with 11 points on a 4-of-7 shooting performance from the field.

"Today was about getting back on track, the last game we didn't play so well on defense," said Wright.  "Today we knew that to win this game we had to play defense."

The Explorers scored 13 points off turnovers, and outscored Fordham 11-0 in fast break offense. La Salle held a 31-20 lead at the break.

Only two Rams, Eric Paschall (25 points) and Ryan Rhoomes (10 points), scored more than six points in the game.

The Explorers are back in action on Thursday as they visit the Rhode Island Rams for a 7 p.m. tip from the Ryan Center. The game will be broadcast locally on Comcast SportsNet and also on SNY.
