BRONX, N.Y.- The La Salle women's volleyball team dropped a tight 3-2 (25-18, 21-25, 17-25, 25-19, 12-15) match at Fordham on Saturday evening. Freshman
Madison Kuch finished with a game high 21 kills.
Kuch ties for the fourth most kills by any Atlantic 10 player in a conference match this season.
The Explorers were able to jump out to an early lead taking the first frame 25-18. Kuch provided an immediate impact in the first frame with eight kills and a .636 hitting percentage in the frame. The Explorers hit .360 during the set.
The host Rams were able to regain control of the game in the second and third sets to take a 2-1 lead. Fordham took the second set 25-21 and the third frame 25-17.
La Salle rebounded in set four taking the frame 25-19 to force a decisive fifth set. With the match tight midway through the Explorers were able to open up a five point lead at 23-18 thanks to a 4-1 run with a pair of kills of Kuch and one from sophomore
Rachel Carr. The Explorers closed out the set with a service ace from sophomore Bryanna Jones, one of nine on the night for La Salle.
Fordham bounced back and prevented La Salle from grabbing the match as the hosts took the fifth set 15-12 and the match 3-2. The Explorers cut a five point deficit to just two at 14-12 after a kill from junior
Ashley Felton but La Salle couldn't complete the comeback.
Davis aided in the attack with 14 kills while classmate
Hannah McGary added 12 of her own on just 23 swings for a .435 hitting percentage. Freshman
Taylor Hite finished with 43 assists on the night while classmate
Jensen Sharrits led the match with 17 digs.
La Salle was able to limit Fordham to just a .131 hitting percentage on the night and had 14 more kills than the hosts on the night. The Rams were able to use timely hitting and 12 aces to help assist their offense on the night.
La Salle returns to action next weekend as they welcome George Washington and George Mason to Tom Gola Arena on Friday and Sunday receptively.
