Explorers Blank Davidson, 1-0

PHILADELPHIA – Junior Deja Davis scored what held up as the game-winning goal in the 17th minute as La Salle shutout the Davidson Wildcats for a 1-0 victory at McCarthy Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

"I thought it was a great team effort with a very special performance from Deja Davis," said head coach Paul Royal. "I'm really confident that this group will use this win to build some momentum for the rest of the A-10 season."

Davis tallied her first goal of the season 16:08 into the contest, collecting a loose ball outside the box and firing it past the diving reach of Davidson keeper Kendall Thomas and inside the far post. The Montclair, N.J. native led the La Salle attack with four shots in the game.

La Salle (4-5-2, 1-1 A-10) outshot the Wildcats (4-7, 0-2 A-10) 14-3 on the afternoon. The Explorers put five shots on goal in the game, paced by two from Chrissy Vollrath. Madison and Maci Bower each recorded a shot on goal for the Blue & Gold.

The La Salle back line was excellent, allowing just one shot on goal and one corner kick. Katie Getzinger tallied her third shutout of the season, registering her lone save in the 78th minute.

"I was really proud to see our leaders keep our team focused after the heartbreaker on Thursday," added Royal. "It shows that this senior group has that special ability to step up when things aren't going our way."

The Explorers are on the road for both games this week, playing at George Washington on Thursday and at Saint Joseph's on Sunday.
