Volleyball Heads to Rhode Island and Fordham

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle continue their road swing as they head to Rhode Island and Fordham this weekend. Both matches are slated to get underway at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday respectively.   

Scouting Rhode Island...

-Rhode Island had a nine game winning streak snapped last weekend as they dropped 3-2 decisions to both Saint Louis and Dayton. The Rams had kicked off A-10 play with 3-1 and 3-0 wins over VCU and Davidson respectively.
-The Rams rank second in Atlantic 10 play averaging 13.82 kills per set in Atlantic 10 play. They are also second averaging 1.71 aces per set against conference foes.
-Junior Callan Kinnan leads the conference averaging 10.94 assists per set in Atlantic 10 play.    
-The Rams boast two of the top six players in the conference in terms of kills. Senior Franki Darnold (3.94) and Audrey Castro (3.71) rank fourth and sixth respectively in kills per set against Atlantic 10 opponents. .
-Rhode Island has been able to frustrate opponents offensively thanks in part to its play at the net. Junior Layne Self, and sophomore Marie Gilcrist both rank in the top 10 in the conference in blocks per set.

-Fordham enters the weekend after dropping two straight matches last weekend. The Rams fell 3-0 to both Dayton and Saint Louis.
-Junior Kristen Ostach ranks third in the conference with a .436 hitting percentage in Atlantic 10 play. Ostach converted on 13 of 16 swings for a .812 hitting percentage in a win over VCU earlier this year.
-Fordham tallied a conference-high 18 aces against Manhattan earlier this season.     
-Freshman Breanna Jones leads the Rams with 185 kills on the season. She is averaging 2.85 kills per set.    
-Sophomore Emily Fronk and senior Abigail Konovodoff have split time setting so far this year. Fronk has 423 assists and Konovodoff has 231 on the year. 

Scouting the Explorers...

- The Explorers enter the weekend after dropping a tight 3-0 (28-30, 25-27, 14-25) at Duquesne. Sophomore Bryanna Davis recorded 16 kills in the match which is the highest by an Atlantic 10 player in a three set conference match this year.
-Davis ranks third in the conference averaging 4.20 kills per set in conference matches this season.
-Freshman Jensen Sharrits leads the conference averaging 4.30 digs per set in conference play.
-Sophomore Hannah McGary has recorded 27 aces on the year which is third most in the conference and the 30th most in the nation. She is averaging .45 aces per set which ranks second in the A-10 and 32nd nationally.    
-Freshman Taylor Hite helped run an efficient offense all season thanks in part to her proving to be a threat offensively as well. Hite is ranks second on the team hitting .289 on the year while adding 542 assists.

La Salle returns home as they welcome George Washington and George Mason next weekend. The Explorers take on the Colonials on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Patriots on Sunday at 1 p.m.
