PHILADELPIHA – The La Salle women's basketball team fell to the Temple Owls 77-48 in their 2015 home opener at Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday night.
Trailing 38-24 at the half, the Explorers went on a 9-2 run to open the third quarter to cut Temple's lead to seven points. Sophomore
Amy Griffin had four points during the run while
Ebony Wells hit a jumper and
Adreana Miller added a three-pointer.
The Owls quickly responded with six straight points and pushed the lead back to double digits by the end of the 3rd before outscoring the Explorers 25-9 in the final quarter.
Temple's Alliya Butts led all scorers with 21 points while junior Feyonda Fitzgerald posted a 19-point, 10-assist double-double.
Griffin finished with 13 points and six rebounds for the Explorers while Miller added 10 points. Junior
Micahya Owens finished with a team-high 15 points and four rebounds.
La Salle scored the game's first four points and held a 10-9 lead in the early going before the Owls used a 13-0 run to take a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Owens helped keep the Explorers within striking distance with a team-high 11 points in the opening half.
Jasmine Alston led the Explorers on the glass for the second straight game, pulling down eight boards to go with two points and four assists. The junior also had a game-high three steals.
