CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The La Salle women's basketball team fell 86-58 to the Miami Hurricanes in the finale of the Miami Thanksgiving Classic on Sunday afternoon at the BankUnited Center.
The Explorers matched the Hurricanes shot for shot in the opening quarter thanks to a pair of threes from
Adreana Miller and five points from
Micahya Owens. La Salle trailed just 16-15 heading into the 2nd quarter before the Hurricanes went on a run leading into halftime.
The Canes outscored La Salle 30-10 in the 2nd quarter to take a 46-25 lead into the break, and kept the Explorers at bay for the rest of the game. Five Hurricanes scored in double figures, led by 15 points from Michelle Woods.
Ashanti Freeland had a career-high 14 points, including 10 points in the 4th quarter, going 7-for-12 from the floor and grabbing four rebounds while
Micahya Owens had 16 of her season-high 23 points in the second half.
Jasmine Alston tied her career-high with nine assists while Miller finished with eight points and three rebounds.
The Explorers are back on the road this week as they visit Howard on Wednesday for a 7 PM tip with the Bison from Burr Gymnasium.
