DAVIDSON, N.C. - The La Salle women's soccer team advanced to a sixth straight A-10 semifinal with a 2-1 victory against crosstown rival Saint Joseph's on Thursday evening at Davidson's Alumni Soccer Stadium.
Madison Bower broke a 1-1 tie in the 70th minute with her fourth goal of the season.
Marykate Bateman sent a ball along the right wing that Bower tracked down and launched inside the far post after making a cut towards the box.
After Saint Joseph's took an early lead in the 12th minute, Bateman tied the game in the 14th minute on a header following a
Jessika Kagan free kick. The goal was Bateman's sixth of the season and the third assist for Kagan.
Saint Joseph's Dakota Mills opened the scoring with her 10th goal of the season off a cross from Hannah Racis. Mills gathered a slightly deflected ball from the right side of the box and drilled a shot that found the back of the net to put the Hawks in front 1-0.
For the game, each team finished with 17 shots, with Saint Joseph's holding advantage in the first half while La Salle had a slight advantage in the second half.
With the victory, La Salle advances to Friday's 7:30 PM semifinal against No. 7 Duquesne.
