HAVERFORD, Pa.- The La Salle men's track and field team opened the indoor season at the Jack Pyrah Invitational and finished the day with four top-three finishes to its name.
A pair of underclassmen turned in top six times in the 300 meters. Sophomore
Justin Guerre had the best finish crossing in third while winning his heat with a career-best time of 35.63. Freshman Isaiah Akil was close behind in sixth with a time of 36.11 to also win his heat. Junior
Nick Della Vecchia (13
th place, 38.05), sophomore
Michael Hagan (18
th place, 38.58) and freshman Quinn Sullivan (22
nd place, 39.49) also ran in the 37 man field.
Sophomore
Chris Sanders led the four Explorers who ran in the mile. Sanders crossed in 4:24.50 for second place in the 13 man field. He was followed by junior
Dan Rosenblatt (fifth place, 4:37.39), sophomore Joseph Leconey (sixth place, 4:40.41) and freshman Stefan Sutton (11
th place, 4:56.21).
Sophomore
Andrew Gorsuch finished in second place out of seven runners in the 3000 meters. Gorsuch crossed in 8:56.05.
Three Explorers had strong times in the 60 meter dash. Guerre led all three thanks to a time of 7.06 for fifth place out of 36 entries. Senior Josh Byrd finished in 10
th with a time of 7.33 while Bryan crossed in 21
st at 7.48.
Sophomores
Nick Smart and
Gregory Dix ran in the seven man 1000 meters field. Smart crossed in fourth place with a time of 2:37.09 while Dix finished in sixth at 2:40.27.
A pair of underclassmen finished one-two in the long jump field of 14. Freshman Zakiyy Williams used a leap of 6.58 meters to best the competition. Sophomore
Jordan Bryan was close behind in second thanks to a 6.30 meter leap.
Williams also won the triple jump thanks to a 13.94 meter distance to top the nine man field. Fellow freshman Stephen Pierce finished in fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 9.19 meters.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team finished in fifth place out of 12 teams. Dix, Leconey, Smart, and Sanders crossed with a time of 3:29.78.
The Explorers return to action on January 16 when they head to Staten Island, N.Y. for the Great Dane Classic.Â
