DELAND, Fla.- Seven La Salle pitchers combined to shutout the Stetson Hatters as the Explorers broke a scoreless tie in the 8
th on their way to a 3-0 victory in the 2015 season opener.
Senior righty
Adam Cherry completed the shutout by retiring the side in order in the 9
th to earn the save and help get the Explorers out to a 1-0 start in 2015.
Billy Worswick recorded the final out in the 7
th to earn the win.
Justin Korenblatt plated
Ryan Welling with an RBI single in the top of the 8
th to break a scoreless tie and give the Explorers a 1-0 lead.
Tom Fazzini pitched around a leadoff double and a pair of walks to slam the door on a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the 8
th.
The Explorers added two insurance runs in the top of the 9
th inning to take a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 9
th.
Cameron Johnson led off the inning with a walk before scoring on a
Josh Savakinus double down the leftfield line.
Savakinus then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Ryan Welling before scoring on a
Collin McGowan RBI groundout to give the Explorers a 3-0 advantage.
La Salle starter
Jared Mattera tossed three scoreless innings to set the tone for the Blue and Gold before
Luke Reilly came in for a pair of scoreless frames.
The Explorers look to clinch the series win on Saturday evening with the first pitch from Melching Field at 5 p.m.
