DELAND, Fla.- The La Salle baseball team scored five runs in the top of the 1
st inning on the way to an 11-2 win over Stetson on Saturday at Melching Field to clinch a win in the three-game series.
Ethan Springston singled to start the game and moved to third on a double by
Michael Flax before
Justin Korenblatt singled through the right side to give the Explorers a 2-0 edge.
After
Mark Williams doubled to center to move Korenblatt to third,
Josh Savakinus doubled the pair in to make it 4-0.
Ryan Welling capped the scoring with an RBI double to center to make it 5-0 in favor of the Blue and Gold.
La Salle starter
Joey Ravert limited the Hatters to one run over five innings to earn the win. The righty yielded just two hits while fanning three.
Welling doubled again in the 3
rd and scored on a
Collin McGowan triple to left center.
Yan Carlo Rivera singled through the right side to plate McGowan and scored on Springston double to make it 8-0 La Salle.
The Explorers continued the barrage with two more runs in the 4
th courtesy of an RBI double from
Cameron Johnson followed by a Savakinus RBI single. Springston added an RBI single in the 8
th for La Salle's final run.
Billy Worswick held the Hatters scoreless for two innings in relief of Ravert before
Greg Paprocki surrendered a run in the 8
th.
Jorge Jimenez pitched a scoreless 9
th to seal the win.
The Explorers eye the sweep in the third game of the series on Sunday afternoon at Melching Field at 12 p.m.
