PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle men's track and field team heads to Rhode Island this weekend to participate in the Atlantic 10 Track and Field Indoor Championships. The Explorers send 19 athletes who will compete in 16 different events over the two days of the competition.
The men look to improve upon their fourth place finish at last year's championships thanks to returning several point winners as well as the addition of key underclassmen.
Graduate student
Vince Perozze returns to the 3000 meter field that he finished second in last season. Perozze will be joined by a pair of sophomores in the event in
David Ozarowski and
Bradley Heuer. Â Â Ozarowski ran his college best in the 3000m earlier this year at the Tiger Open with a 8:34.31 while Heuer posted his best college time at the Gotham Cup with an 8:38.89.
Senior
Nico Greco will enter the 5000 meter field again after earning second place at the 2014 A-10 championships thanks to a time of 14:48.54 behind only teammate
Alfredo Santana who won the event. Greco is joined in the event by Heuer and junior
Ian Barnhill. Heuer ran his college best at the Patriot Games earlier this season with a 15:00.9 while Barnhill's fastest time this season came at the Yale Giegengack Invitational with a 14:46.38.
Junior
John Pujols made the finals of the 1000 meters at last year's championship and will return to the event this weekend. Pujols will be joined by junior
Chris Trimble and freshman Nicholas Smart. Trimble ran his college best in the 1000m at the Tiger Open with a 2:31.06 while Smart's best time this season came at the Patriot Games with a 2:30.11.
Senior
Francis Mancho and freshman
Justin Guerre will both enter the 60 meter dash as well as the 200 meter prelims. Guerre's best time in the 60 meter came at the Patriot Games in the final with a time of 6.97 while Mancho's fastest this season is a 7.07 at the Tiger Open. Guerre owns the fastest 200 time of the pair with a 22.69 at the Giegengack Invitational.
La Salle will send three competitors out in the one mile field of 22. Senior
Nick Ross, junior
Ian Barnhill and sophomore
Stephen Lewandowski all enter the event. Of the trio, Ross owns the best college time in the event with a 4:05.31 at the 2014 Giegengack Invitational.
Junior Josh Byrd is the sole entry for La Salle in the 16 man 400 meter field. Byrd's fastest indoor time in the event is a 50.29 at the 2014 Columbia Invitational.
Freshman
Collin Pierlott will enter the 800 meter field of 15 this weekend. Pierlott's best time in the event is a 1:56.25 at the Giegengack Invitational.
Sophomore
Cris Hunter enters the 17 man field for the 500 meter race. His best time in the event this season is a 1:06.06 at the Giegengack Invitational. His classmate
Nick Della Vecchia enters the 60 meter hurdles prelims field of 13. The sophomore ran a 8.93 in the event at the Giegengack Invitational.
Freshmen
Kenneth Worthington and
Jordan Bryan enter the jumps for the men. Both will compete in the high jump with Worthington having the best college best of the two at 2.00 meters while Bryan also enters the long jump with a college best of 6.88 meters at the Jack Pyrah Invitational. Senior
Michael Santeramo will also compete in the field as one of 14 entries in the shot put.
The men will also have three relays running this weekend as they enter teams in the 4x400 meter relay, 4x800 meter relay and the distance medley relay.
