NASHVILLE, Tenn – The La Salle baseball team fell 8-2 to the Lipscomb Bisons in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Dugan Field.
The Bisons scored in each of the first four innings, including four runs in the 3
rd, to get the win in the series opener.
Lipscomb took a 1-0 lead in the 1
st on a Hunter Hanks RBI double before La Salle responded with an RBI single from
Ryan Welling in the 2
nd to even the game at 1-1.
The Bisons answered in their half of the 2
nd with an RBI double from Adam Lee before tagging La Salle starter
Jared Mattera (L, 0-2) for four more runs in the 3
rd. The Bisons tacked on an unearned run in the 4
th against
Alex Faust before the righty retired the next seven hitters in a row.
Lipscomb starter Ian Martinez-McGraw (W, 2-0) scattered eight hits over five innings, allowing just one run via the Welling RBI single.
Ethan Springston plated a run with a ground out in the 6
th against reliever Brady Puckett but the Explorers couldn't overcome Lipscomb's strong start.
La Salle matched Lipscomb's hit total with 12 as four Explorers finished with multiple hits. Second baseman
Collin McGowan finished 3-for-3 while Welling, Springston and
Justin Korenblatt each had two hits.
The Explorers are back in action on Saturday afternoon with a first pitch set for 3 p.m. from Dugan Field.
