Men | WomenPHILADELPHIA - The La Salle rowing team opened up its 2015 spring season on Saturday with a set of races on a rainy Schuylkill River. Three men's boats raced as well as the women's varsity eight.
The women's V8 clocked in at 7:10.0, finishing fifth in its race. Saint Joseph's won with a 6:15.4 mark, followed by Boston College (6:16.7) and Drexel (6:18.3).
The men's side was led by the novice eight, finishing third in a four-boat race with a time of 5:50.1. The Explorers closely followed both Drexel boats, with the Dragons' A boat winning in 5:43.2 and their B boat in 5:45.8. The Explorers outlasted Villanova by far, which clocked a 6:17.9.
The men's V8 clocked a 5:57.2 in its first race of the season to finish fourth. Drexel 'A' captured the race in 5:39.5, followed by Villanova (5:41.0) and Drexel 'B' (5:43.1).
The men's 2V8 also got out on the river for the first meet of the season, finishing in 6:10.9. Drexel 'B' won with a time of 5:29.0, followed by Drexel 'A' (5:35.8) and Villanova (6:00.4).
Both the men's and women's teams get their regatta schedule started on Saturday, March 28, when they head over to the Cooper River for the annual Murphy Cup.
