Springston’s Three Homers Lead Explorers Past Delaware State, 20-14

DOVER, Del. – Sophomore Ethan Springston knocked three home runs as the Explorers outmuscled the Delaware State Hornets 20-14 at Soldier Field on Tuesday.

La Salle hit five home runs as a club for the second time this season while Springston became the first Explorer to hit three homers in game since at least 2004. The Blue and Gold also went deep five times at UNC Asheville on March 6.

Springston hit a two-run homer in the top of the 2nd to put the Explorers on top 2-0 before Delaware State got a run back in the bottom half of the 2nd.

La Salle erupted for nine runs in the 3rd to take an 11-1 lead, sparked by a Ryan Welling RBI single. Justin Korenblatt and Josh Savakinus had two-run doubles while Mark Williams doubled in a run and the Explorers worked three walks with the bases loaded.

Two-run homers from Delaware State's Justin Allen and Jake Bartlett made it 11-5 in the bottom of the 3rd before Josh Savakinus delivered an RBI groundout in the 4th and Springston had another two-run shot in the top of the 5th to push the lead to 14-5.

Joey Ravert hit his fifth homer of the season with two outs in the 6th, which Springston followed with another two-run dinger two batters later. Williams added a solo homer in the 7th and Justin Korenblatt drove in two with a double in the 8th to make it 20-7 in favor of the visitors.

Springston finished with five runs scored and seven RBI's while Justin Korenblatt plated four as the Explorers scored a season-high 20 runs.

Luke Reilly (W, 2-1) tossed a scoreless 6th inning, striking out two and getting a fly out after issuing  two-out walk.
