DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson's Lee Miller delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the 10
th inning to lift the Wildcats to an 11-10 victory over the La Salle baseball team on Friday night at Wilson Field.
Nathan Becker singled in two runs in the 7th to tie the game at 10-10 and set the table for Miller's game-winner.
La Salle's
Greg Paprocki (L, 0-1) entered following the Becker single, stranding the go-ahead run at third base while recording the last two outs in the inning. Paprocki held Davidson scoreless until loading the bases in the 10
th and surrendering the single to Miller.
The Explorers got out to an early lead, breaking a scoreless tie in the 3
rd with six runs on seven hits.
Justin Korenblatt's RBI single sparked a string of four straight run-scoring base knocks for La Salle.
Josh Savakinus' two-run double made it 3-0 before
Cameron Johnson doubled in a run and
Mark Williams had an RBI single.
Ryan Welling capped the scoring with a two-run double to left center.
After Davidson trimmed the lead to 6-4 with four runs in the 5
th, Korenblatt walked with the bases loaded to force in a run and Johnson had a two-run single to take a 9-4 lead.
The Wildcats came right back with four more runs in the 6
th to make it a one-run game before Savakinus forced in La Salle's final run with a bases-loaded walk in the 7
th.
Davidson's Josh Smutzer (W, 3-0) closed the door on La Salle in the 10
th, inducing an inning-ending double play following a Williams single.
The Explorers and Wildcats resume the series on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
