PHILADELPHIA – La Salle starter
Luke Reilly struck out 10 Flyers as the La Salle baseball team picked up a 7-3 victory over Dayton on Friday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field to open the weekend series.
Reilly's (W, 3-1) 10 strikeouts are the most for an Explorer pitcher since
Shawn O'Neill fanned ten against Chicago State on March 17, 2013. The lefty limited the Flyers to just two hits in six innings but was charged with three runs (one earned) after a pair of La Salle fielding errors.
Cameron Johnson and
Mark Williams both finished with two hits, two runs scored and a run driven in while
Justin Korenblatt extended his hit streak to 17 games by finishing 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Joey Ravert gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the 1
st with an RBI single before the Explorers posted five runs in the 2
nd.
Four consecutive RBI singles from Korenblatt, Johnson, Williams and
Josh Savakinus got the Explorers out to a 5-0 advantage. Ravert picked up another RBI with a fielder's choice grounder that scored Williams.
After the Flyers scored twice in the 4
th, the Blue and Gold added an insurance run in their half of the 4
th on a sacrifice fly from Savakinus. Dayton starter Charlie Dant (L, 1-5) was tagged with seven earned runs on seven hits and three walks.
Billy Worswick and
Tom Fazzini combined for three scoreless innings out of the La Salle pen to close the game.
Game two is set for a 1 p.m. first pitch on Saturday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
