PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle Explorers fell to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies 2-1 in a pitcher's duel at Hank DeVincent Field on Friday afternoon.
La Salle starter
Joey Ravert (L, 4-3) kept the Explorers in the game with seven strong innings, holding the Bonnies to two runs on four hits while fanning six.
St. Bonaventure starter Connor Grey (W, 3-2) limited La Salle to one run over seven innings, pitching around four walks and four hits while striking out two.
Chase Arnold delivered a two-out RBI single to center in the 6
th to make it a one-run game but the Explorers couldn't solve Thad Johnson (S, 6), who recorded the final six outs after starting the game at third base.
The Bonnies opened up a 1-0 lead on Cole Peterson's squeeze bunt that scored Danny Urban in the 3
rd, and made it 2-0 in the 4
th on a Ravert throwing error that scored Ted Dilts.
Billy Worswick and
Adam Cherry each worked a scoreless inning in relief of Ravert to keep the Blue and Gold within reach for their final two at-bats.
Ravert and
Ethan Springston each had two hits for the home team as both clubs recorded six hits on the afternoon.
Game two is slated for 1 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
