PHILADELPHIA – La Salle starter
Luke Reilly limited St. Bonaventure to one run over eight innings as the Explorers defeated the Bonnies 4-1 in the middle game of the series on Saturday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
The redshirt sophomore didn't yield a walk in eight frames and allowed just four hits while striking out six Bonnies. Senior
Adam Cherry (S, 5) recorded the final three outs to even the series at 1-1.
The Explorers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 2
nd as
Josh Savakinus started the inning with a double to right center and scored on a
Ryan Welling single up the middle. After Ethan Springtson walked, SBU shortstop Cole Peterson's errant throw on
Yan Carlo Rivera's grounder in the hole allowed Welling and Springston to score.
SBU scored their lone run in the 4
th on Dylan Dunn's RBI single to trim the La Salle lead to 3-1. The Explorers answered in the 7
th with
Joey Ravert's RBI single to center.
Welling and
Collin McGowan both finished 2-for-4 on the afternoon as La Salle outhit the Bonnies 8-5.
Game three is slated for 1:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
