NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— La Salle freshman
Brandon Raihl has been named the Atlantic 10 Golf Rookie of the Week, the league office announced.
Raihl shot his collegiate low with a 73 (+3) in the first round of the Finegan Invitational, played at the 6,735-yard, par-70 Stonewall North Golf Club. He tallied a 76 on day two, his second best round of the year.
The Wernersville, Pa., native also tallied the lowest 36-hole score and best finish of his career. He tied for 20th out of 63 golfers, helping the Explorers to a fifth-place finish.
Raihl is the third Explorer in program history to earn A-10 Rookie of the Week honors, joining
Mike Johnson and
Joe Markmann. Johnson won the award four times in in 2010-11, while Markmann won his award last season.
La Salle will compete in the Atlantic 10 Championship beginning on Friday at 8 AM from the Harmony Preserve outside of Orlando, Fla.
