HARMONY, Fla. - The La Salle golf team will battle the best teams in the conference when it tees off on Friday morning at 9:00 AM at the Atlantic 10 Championship, hosted at the Harmony Preserve. La Salle is coming off a strong performance at the Finegan Invitational last weekend, shooting a 293 (+13) in its final round.
The Explorers will send its usual starting lineup to the first tee in graduate student
Tonny Aizpun, seniors
Greg Goodreds and
Justin Smith and sophomores
PJ Acierno and
Joe Markmann.
Aizpun is coming off his best showing as an Explorer, tying for fourth at the Finegan Invitational with a 73-70=143 (+3). The 70 was his low round as a collegian. Aizpun, a Barcelona, Spain native, has experience in conference championships while competing at Mount St. Mary's where he was named to the NEC All-Tournament team after finishing sixth in 2012. His 76.7 stroke average is second on the team.
Goodreds also tied a collegiate low on Monday at the Finegan, shooting a one-over 71. He finished ninth with a 74-71=145 (+5) and his 77.8 stroke average is third on the team. He boasts three years of A-10 Tournament experience.
Smith comes in with an 80.0 stroke average but has the ability to post a low score, as evidenced by his 71 at the Patriot Intercollegiate this year.Â
Acierno owns the team's best stroke average at 76.2. He missed last year's A-10 Championship after redshirting but had a strong showing at the event in 2013. He shot a 76-73-69=218 (+2), which included the lowest round and lowest 54-hole total by an Explorer in A-10 Championship history. He owns two 70s this season.
Markmann averages 80.9 strokes per round and has a 72 and 73 to his name this season. He also competed at last year's A-10 Championship.Â
Harmony Preserve is a Johnny Miller designed course that plays to a par of 72. Located 28 miles south of Orlando, Harmony can stretch out to 7,417 yards.Â
