PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle track and field program will be represented in five different events at the 121
st running of the Penn Relays this week and weekend at Franklin Field on the campus of Penn.

The men's team will send three different relay teams beginning with the men's distance medley relay on Friday. The fastest time the Explorers have run this year in the event was a 10:00.62 at the Colonial Relays with sophomores
Stephen Lewandowski and
Chris Sanders, freshman
Collin Pierlott and senior
Nick Ross.
Â
The field features 52 total teams including the Oregon Ducks who were last year's champions at the Penn Relays. Villanova returns after finishing second in the event last year and in the top three in all three distance relay races. Stanford, Penn State, and Georgetown will all also push to be in the mix.

Later in day the men's 4x400 meter relay team will compete. Sophomores
Cris Hunter and
Nick Della Vecchia and freshmen
David Reick and
Michael Hagan own the Explorers fastest time this season running a 3:26.55 at the Philadelphia College Classic at Franklin Field in late March. There are 95 relay teams entered in the event.

Texas A&M enters as the favorites as the defending NCAA outdoor champions in the 4x400. UTech from Jamaica also promises to feature in this event having run a 3:04.02 at the Gibson relays in Jamaica earlier this season. Along with A&M, two other top ten times from this season in the NCAA will be entered in the event with LSU and Western Kentucky.

The final event that the Explorers will be represented in will be the men's 4x800 meter relay taking place on Saturday afternoon. Junior
Chris Trimble, senior
Vince Perozze, freshman Nicholas Smart, and sophomore
Dan Rosenblatt have the fastest time this season with a 7:50.89 run at the Colonial Relays.

The field for the 4x800 meter relay features 52 teams. La Salle is one of four Atlantic 10 teams entered in the event joined by Fordham, Rhode Island, and St. Joes. Some early favorites in the race include Villanova, Oregon, Stanford, Penn State and Texas A&M.

From the women's team they will compete in two distance relay events with entries in the 4x800 meter relay and the distance medley relay.

The women's DMR is set to kick off on Thursday evening. The women's best result this season in the event came from freshmen
Kaitlin Poiesz,
Amber Jenkins, and
Morgan Szekely as well as senior
Taylor Hackett with an 11:54.46 time at the Colonial Relays. They will compete in the 36 team field.

The women will also be represented in the 4x800 meter relay on Saturday afternoon. Freshman
Ifetayo Tyler, juniors
Shannon Dwyer and
Kate Conville and senior
Cayleigh Solano own the fastest time in the 4x800 relay this year for the Explorers with a 9:09.09 at the Colonial Relays. This quartet could also feature as part of the distance medley relay on Thursday.

The Explorers as a team will be in action on Saturday at the Lehigh Games before traveling to Fairfax, Virginia next weekend for the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships.

Stanford enters the week as the favorites with a chance to sweep all three women's distance relay events. The main competition for the Cardinal will be Villanova who swept all three events last year and Georgetown. Duke Harvard, Connecticut and Dartmouth look to provide competition as well in the distance relays.Â
