PHILADELHPIA – The La Salle baseball team clinched a series win over Richmond with an 8-6 defeat of the Spiders on Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field.
Cameron Johnson crushed a three-run homer to left before
Joey Ravert hit a two-run shot to right as part of a five-run 5
th inning that gave La Salle an 8-2 lead. Both Johnson and Ravert finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI's.
The Spiders scored four runs in the 9
th inning before the Explorers were able to halt the rally with the tying run at the plate.
Billy Worswick had worked two scoreless innings in relief for La Salle but ran into trouble in the 9
th. The righty got two quick outs before giving up two singles and a walk and was pulled in favor of
Adam Cherry with La Salle up 8-3.
Cherry issued a walk to load the bases before a bases-clearing double from pinch-hitter Jansen Fraser cut the lead to two. Cherry recovered with a strikeout to end the game.
After giving up two unearned runs on two hits and an error in the 1
st, La Salle starter
Mark Williams (W, 3-0) settled down to toss four scoreless innings. The righty didn't allow a walk while pitching around seven hits.
Ravert had an RBI double in the 1
st and scored on a wild pitch before
Josh Savakinus put the Explorers on top 3-2 with an RBI double to right.
The Explorers are back in action on Tuesday as they visit the Villanova Wildcats at 3 p.m.
