PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team fell 8-3 to the George Mason Patriots on Sunday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field. The program's eight seniors were recognized in a pregame ceremony.
Freshman
Nico Olvera drove in two runs while seniors
Cameron Johnson,
Mark Williams and
Ryan Welling each had two hits in their final game at Hank DeVincent Field.
The Patriots took a lead in the early innings, capitalizing on two La Salle errors in the 1
st to score three unearned runs against Williams (L, 3-1). The righty was charged with seven runs (four earned) before being lifted in the 3
rd for
Tom Fazzini.
Entering with one out and La Salle down 7-1, Fazzini tossed 3.2 scoreless innings as the Explorers tried to claw their way back into the game.
Olvera got the Explorers on the board with an RBI groundout in the 2
nd, and Williams followed with an RBI single in the 3
rd. Olvera cut the Mason lead to four with another RBI groundout in the 4
th, but the Explorers offense sputtered in the late innings.
The Explorers are on the road for their final four games of the season, beginning with a trip to Rider on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
