KINGSTON, R.I. – The La Salle baseball team clinched a series win with a 6-2 victory over the Rhode Island Rams on Friday afternoon at Bill Beck Field.
La Salle's
Josh Savakinus doubled in the top of the 1st inning to tie the La Salle single-season record for doubles (23) set by Mike Fuchs in 1999. The senior finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored while fellow senior
Cameron Johnson went 2-for-4 with two runs driven in.
Johnson singled in Savakinus in the 1st and gave La Salle a 2-1 lead with an RBI groundout in the 6th after the Rams tied the game at 1-1 in the 4th.
Mark Williams scored on a wild pitch to stretch the lead to 3-1.
The La Salle bullpen was excellent in relief of Williams, who started for La Salle and held Rhody to one run over four-plus innings on five hits and two walks.
Greg Krug (W, 1-1) got three straight outs after entering in the 5th with two men on before
Jorge Jimenez (S, 1) yielded just one run over four innings to close the game.
The Explorers scored three runs in the 8th thanks to a pair of Rhody fielding errors.
La Salle concludes the regular season with tomorrow's final at Bill Beck Field at 11 a.m.
