P.J. Acierno Earns Medalist Honors At GAP Amateur Qualifier

Men's Golf | May 19, 2015

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. - La Salle redshirt sophomore P.J. Acierno shot a one-under 71 on Monday to win medalist honors at the BMW Philadelphia Amateur Qualifier, hosted by the Golf Association of Philadelphia at Plymouth Country Club. He moves on to play in the BMW Philadelphia Amateur on June 16-18 & 20 at Llanerch Country Club.

Acierno had five birdies on the day, including four in a stretch of six holes to get to three-under. His 71 was the best score of the day by two strokes.

"This is the first time I've tried for the Philly Am, which I'm pretty pumped about. I'd love to get into match play. That'd be great," Acierno told GAPgolf.org. "I just love match play. I've definitely played a lot of it before."

The sophomore recently completed a strong sophomore season at La Salle averaging 76.1 strokes/round with two top 10 finishes.

"I want to play in as many tournaments as I can this summer. This one worked out with my schedule, and it was great to have it at Plymouth, right nearby where I live," said Acierno, a Flourtown, Pa. resident. "I saw the list of the guys that are exempt who look like they will be playing in the Championship and it's a great field, like every year. I hope I can get it done in the first 36 and then get it done in match play."
