PHILADELPHIA – Ryan Welling,
Michael Flax and
Joey Ravert have been named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Thursday.
La Salle was one of just three Division I schools (Florida State, Nebraska Omaha) to have three student-athletes named to an All-District Team."We're honored to have these three guys in our program," said La Salle baseball head coach
Mike Lake. "Just like the rest of our guys, they're doing very well academically. We had a 3.36 GPA as a team last semester, so it doesn't surprise me that they're receiving these individual accolades."
Welling, a two-time recipient of the award, is having a career year in his final spring with the Explorers. The catcher is in the top ten in the league in RBI's (38) and doubles (15), and is hitting .331 through 44 games.
The Baltimore, Md. native amassed a 3.83 GPA in accounting & finance as an undergraduate and has a 3.68 GPA in the MBA program.
Flax has appeared in 39 games in the infield for the Blue and Gold, and is hitting .239 with six double and 12 RBI's. The Potomac, Md. native has maintained a 3.81 GPA in accounting.
Ravert earned the All-District nod as a designated hitter, although the junior also pitches and plays first base for the Explorers. The Havertown, Pa. native is second in the Atlantic 10 in slugging percentage (.672), tied for third in the league with 10 homers and hitting .336 through 40 games.
They righty has also made 11 starts on the hill, going 4-4 with a 3.82 ERA in a team-high 63.2 innings. The Malvern Prep grad has a 3.59 GPA as an accounting major.
"It's a tribute to their families on how they dedicate themselves to success in the classroom, and also to the way La Salle values academics," added Lake.
