PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle baseball team fell to George Mason 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Hank DeVincent Field to even the weekend series at 1-1.
George Mason starter John Williams (W, 6-5) tossed seven shutout innings, allowing only two hits and a walk while fanning six. Evan Porcella preserved the shutout for 1.1 innings before Tyler Tobin (S, 8) came in with two runners on in the 9
th and induced a game-ending double play.
Collin McGowan had both of the hits against Williams, finishing 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. The Explorers had runners in scoring position in three different innings but were unable to deliver the timely hit.
Mason's Brandon Gum tripled in a run in the 3
rd inning to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead and knock La Salle starter
Joey Ravert (L, 4-5) from the game. The visitors added a run in the 4
th and scored twice in the 8
th against
Billy Worswick to take a four-run lead.
The rubber match is scheduled for 12 p.m. on Sunday at Hank DeVincent Field. The Explorers will honor their nine graduating seniors with a pregame ceremony.
