PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team defeated the Loyola Greyhounds 1-0 in the home opener at McCarthy Stadium on Monday night thanks to a goal from senior
Joe Farrell in the 55th minute.
Sophomore
Tony Daniele delivered a corner kick that Farrell headed inside the far post past the outstretched arms of Loyola keeper Matt Sanchez. The goal was Farrell's first of the year while Daniele picked up his second assist of the season on the play.
"In practice we work on corners all the time," said Farrell. "I knew the ball was supposed to come back post, and
Tony Daniele put a great ball in the box."
The Explorers limited the Greyhounds to five shots in the game, and just one on goal. Goalkeeper
Mike Kirk, who tallied his seventh career shutout, made a diving save on a Loyola header in the 44th minute to send the game scoreless into halftime.
"Our team was very solid tonight defensively," added Farrell. "That's a huge thing we look to build on."
The Explorers travel west to California over the weekend as they visit Saint Mary's on Friday and the University of San Francisco on Sunday.
