MORAGA, Calif. - The Saint Mary's Gaels scored on a header in the 86th minute to edge the La Salle Explorers 3-2 on Friday night at Garaventa Soccer Field.
SMC's Cory Schmidt headed in a cross from Rafael Sanchez at the 85:10 mark to lift the Gaels after La Salle had tied the game at 2-2 in the 74th minute.
Colman Kennedy tied the game at the 73:19 point in the second half just moments after the Gaels had taken a 2-1 lead. Kennedy settled a
Mike Liska feed into the far side of the box and sent it inside the near post to make it 2-2.
A 1-1 game at the half, Saint Mary's took a lead on a Ben Braman header at 72:44 mark. The Explorers outshot the Gaels 15-13 on the night and controlled corner kicks 8-5.
Joe Hansen gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the 34th minute, collecting a loose ball in traffic in front of the net and tapping it in for the score. SMC quickly tied the game in the 44th minute on a Jake Stenberg goal following a corner kick.
The Explorers finish their West Coast action on Sunday afternoon as they take on the San Francisco Dons at Negoesco Stadium at 5 PM.
