PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team dropped a 0-3 (7-25, 20-25, 16-25) to Temple on Friday afternoon in the opening match of the Big 5 Tournament at the Palestra. Junior
Ashley Felton led the Explorers with six kills on the night.
Temple controlled the first set from start to finish. The Owls hit .368 in the frame and were able to use four blocks to limit the Explorers attack. Sophomore
Hannah McGary was able to connect on two of three swings for La Salle in the first frame.
La Salle was able to keep things close much of the second set, but the Owls got hot late in the set and were able to pull out the 25-20 set win. Temple finished the set on a 6-1 run to seal out the win after the set had been tied at 19-19. Felton and sophomore
Bryanna Davis each had three kills in the set while freshman
Jensen Sharrits added four digs in the frame.
The Owls closed out the match with a 25-16 set three win. Temple was able to jump out to an early 10 point lead at 9-19, and despite La Salle fighting back and closing the gap it was not enough. Felton had another efficient frame with three kills on just four swings for a .750 hitting percentage in the frame.
La Salle closes out the Big 5 Tournament tomorrow as they face Villanova and Penn at McGonigle Hall on the campus of Temple.
