BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The La Salle men's soccer team collected its fourth shutout of the season as the Explorers battled to a 0-0 draw with the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds in double overtime on Saturday afternoon at LIU Field.
The Explorers took four shots in overtime, and outshot the Blackbirds 14-12 on the afternoon but couldn't find the back of the net against a stout LIU back line.
Freshman
Cameron Keys made his first collegiate start between the pipes for La Salle, registering four saves to keep the Blackbirds scoreless for 110 minutes. Keys turned away one of LIU Brooklyn's best scoring opportunities in the 20th minute, saving a shot from Christoffer Solbakken after the freshman collected a loose ball and fired it towards the net.
Logan Keys, Cameron's older brother, also tallied four saves to earn the shutout as LIU's keeper. Logan made back-to-back saves for the Blackbirds in the 83rd minute, halting shots from
Johnny Ciarlante and
Ryan Nork to keep the Explorers in check.
Ciarlante,
Andrew Connors and
Joe Hansen paced the La Salle attack with three shots each.
Mike Liska got things going with a shot on goal
from inside the box in the 6
th minute while
Astral Edwards registered La Salle's other shot on goal.
The Explorers return home this week as they host the Villanova Wildcats at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday, September 30.
