PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's soccer team fell 2-0 to the Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium in their final nonconference match of the season.
Villanova scored twice in the second half after the two teams battled slick conditions in a scoreless first half. The Explorers fired four shots before the break while the Wildcats had five.
The visitors got on the board in the 65th minute on Sean Sheridan's third goal of the season. The senior sent a free kick from just outside the box on the near side looping over La Salle keeper
Cameron Keys and inside the far post.
Sheridan then assisted Villanova's second goal, which came on a corner kick in the 76th minute. Sheridan sent the ball from the far corner into the middle of the box where Colton Bryant bumped it in for his first score of the year.
La Salle outshot the Wildcats 15-13 on the night, putting a total of four shots on goal against Villanova keeper Will Steiner. Keys made five saves against seven shots on goal.
The Explorers open Atlantic 10 play on Saturday as they travel to the Bronx for a 1 PM match with the Fordham Rams at Jack Coffey Field.
