LORTON, Va. - The La Salle golf team got off to a slow start at the Patriot Intercollegiate, but rallied to post a 302 in round one and a 303 in round two and stands in 13th place through 36 holes. The third and final round begins on Monday morning.
The Explorers were +16 as a team through the first nine holes of the day but played the back nine +2 as a team to record the 302 (+18) in the opening round. That number included a one-under final nine from freshman
Nick Geiman and an even-par nine from redshirt junior PJ Acierno.
Overall, Acierno led the team with a 73-75=148 (+6) and is tied for 26th. Graduate student
Tonny Aizpun carded a pair of 76s to shoot 152 (+10), while junior
Joe Markmann had a 78-74=152 (+10). The duo is tied for 50th.
Geiman had a 75-78=153 (+11) to tie for 62nd, while fellow freshman
Andrew Reynolds, competing as an individual, shot a 77-78=155 (+13) and is tied for 71st.
West Florida leads the field with a even-par 568. Bethune-Cookman is four shots back, followed by Towson (573), James Madison (579) and George Mason (581). Towson's Jimmy Grem shot an impressive 67-64=131 (-11) and has a five shot lead.
