LORTON, Va. - La Salle junior
Joe Markmann carded a career-best 68 (-3) to pace the Explorers at the Patriot Intercollegiate, hosted by George Mason at the Lauren Hill Golf Club. Markmann shot a 78-74-68=220 (+7), a personal best for 54 holes, to tie for 22nd.
Markmann started on the tenth hole with a bogey but then played the next ten holes at three-under. After a double-bogey on #3, he birdied three of the next four holes. He posted six birdies for the day.
Redshirt junior PJ Acierno also had a solid performance, shooting a 72 (+1) and tied Markmann in 22nd with his 73-75-72=220 (+7). Freshman
Nick Geiman had a 75-78-80=233 (+20) to tie for 74th while graduate student
Tonny Aizpun shot a 76-76-84=236 (+23) to tie for 85th.Â
Sophomore
Brandon Raihl (93-82-80=255, 98th) and freshman
Andrew Reynolds (77-78-79=234, T78 as individual) rounded out the Explorers lineup.
As a team, La Salle had its best round of the tournament with a 300 (+16). Overall the Blue and Gold recorded a 905 (+53) to finish 14th.
West Florida ran away with the team title with a five-under 847 for 54 holes. James Madison (+8) was second, followed by Towson (+10), Bethune Cookman (+19) and George Mason (+24) rounded out the top five.
Towson's Jimmy Gremm shot a 67-64-73=204 (-9) edged West Florida's Talin Rajendranath by two strokes for medalist honors.
La Salle is off the next two weekends before traveling to the Lehigh Invitational.Â
