Alston Notches Triple-Double in 78-68 Loss to Penn

PHILADELPHIA - La Salle junior Jasmine Alston recorded her first career triple-double on Wednesday night as the Explorers were defeated by the Penn Quakers 78-68 in Big 5 action from Tom Gola Arena.

Alston hit a layup with 1:34 left in the game to record her 10th point and seal the triple-double after reaching double figures in rebounds and assists earlier in the 2nd half. The junior finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists.

Alston's 10th assist came on an Adreana Miller three-pointer that capped an 8-2 La Salle run and cut the Quaker's lead to 52-49 with 7:21 left in the game. Penn answered with a 10-2 run to keep the Explorers at bay, taking a 62-51 lead on a Lauren Whitlatch three-pointer with 5:46 left in regulation.

Although the Explorers put together another run in the final minutes, cutting their deficit to 71-66 on an Amy Griffin jumper with 1:31, Penn was able to keep the game just out of reach down the stretch.

Three other Explorers finished in double figures, paced by a 17-point output from Micahya Owens. Griffin chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds while Miller tallied 13 points and four boards.

Penn's Sydney Stipanovich posted a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double while Kasey Chambers netted 18 and Anna Ross kicked in 11. Chambers and Ross each had six assists.

La Salle resumes Atlantic 10 play on Saturday as they visit the Saint Louis Billikens for an 8 p.m. tip from Chaifetz Arena.
