PHILADELPHIA - La Salle junior
Jasmine Alston recorded her first career triple-double on Wednesday night as the Explorers were defeated by the Penn Quakers 78-68 in Big 5 action from Tom Gola Arena.
Alston hit a layup with 1:34 left in the game to record her 10th point and seal the triple-double after reaching double figures in rebounds and assists earlier in the 2nd half. The junior finished with 10 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 12 assists. Â
Alston's 10th assist came on an
Adreana Miller three-pointer that capped an 8-2 La Salle run and cut the Quaker's lead to 52-49 with 7:21 left in the game. Penn answered with a 10-2 run to keep the Explorers at bay, taking a 62-51 lead on a Lauren Whitlatch three-pointer with 5:46 left in regulation.Â
Although the Explorers put together another run in the final minutes, cutting their deficit to 71-66 on an
Amy Griffin jumper with 1:31, Penn was able to keep the game just out of reach down the stretch.Â
Three other Explorers finished in double figures, paced by a 17-point output from
Micahya Owens. Griffin chipped in 16 points and seven rebounds while Miller tallied 13 points and four boards.Â
Penn's Sydney Stipanovich posted a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double while Kasey Chambers netted 18 and Anna Ross kicked in 11. Chambers and Ross each had six assists.Â
