ST. LOUIS – The La Salle women's basketball team couldn't sustain a hot start despite a career-high 15 assists from
Jasmine Alston in a 79-70 loss to Saint Louis on Saturday night at Chaifetz Arena.
After recording a triple-double against Penn on Monday, Alston posted a double-double with 12 rebounds to go with the 15 helpers, which was just five short of the school record. The junior also finished with five points and four steals.
The Explorers came out firing early in the opening quarter, charging out to a 19-10 lead after hitting nine of their first 13 shots. Saint Louis, however, caught up with a 22-7 run to open the 2nd quarter.
Amy Griffin was instrumental in La Salle's strong start, dropping 10 of her game-high 26 points in the opening quarter. The sophomore was 12-for-20 from the field on the way to finishing with 20-plus points for the sixth time this season.
After trailing by 13 at the half, the Explorers cut the deficit down to six with a 10-2 run midway through the 3rd quarter. SLU was able to extend the lead to 12 by the end of the 3rd and kept a double-digit cushion for most of the 4th quarter.
La Salle returns to Philadelphia for a midweek matchup with the Dayton Flyers at Tom Gola Arena on Wednesday night.
