PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball team fell 60-43 to the Richmond Spiders in its Atlantic 10 opener on Saturday afternoon in Tom Gola Arena.
Amy Griffin had a game-high 24 points for the Explorers, finishing 11-for-20 from the field and pulling down a game-high nine rebounds.
Adreana Miller also finished in double figures for La Salle, chipping in 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting.
The Explorers outscored the Spiders 20-9 in the 4th quarter, but it wasn't enough to overcome Richmond's strong start. The Spiders outscored La Salle 19-5 in the 2nd quarter after a pair of free throws from
Micahya Owens in the closing seconds of the 1st quarter cut Richmond's lead to just two points.
Owens went 4-for-4 from the foul line as the Explorers hit 9-of-10 attempts from the charity stripe.
Three Spiders scored in double figures on the afternoon, including a team-high 17 points from Micaela Parson. Janelle Hubbard added 15 points while Karleigh Wike contributed 10 points and nine rebounds.
The Explrorers continue league play on Wednesday as they host the Davidson Wildcats in Tom Gola Arena at 7 p.m.
