Women's Basketball Turned Away at Saint Joseph's, 64-55

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's basketball team fell victim to a second-half surge by Saint Joseph's in a 64-55 loss to the Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Hagan Arena.

The Explorers got off to a strong start, jumping out to a small lead in the 1st quarter and pushing the advantage to 13 points at the half. La Salle led the Hawks 37-24 at the break until a strong 3rd quarter for SJU shifted the tide of the game.

Saint Joseph's outscored La Salle 22-7 in the 3rd quarter to finally take the lead on a pair of Ciara Andrews foul shots with 11 seconds left in the quarter. The lead was the first for SJU since the game's opening minutes.

Although La Salle briefly regained a one-point advantage with a trey from Micahya Owens with 8:07 to go in the game, Saint Joseph's closed the game on a 17-6 run to complete the comeback.

Amy Griffin turned in a game-high 23 points for the Explorers, her seventh game of at least 20 points this season. The sophomore was 10-for-23 from the floor and matched Jasmine Alston for a team-high six rebounds.

In addition to the six boards, Alston finished with 12 points and a game-high four assists. Owens chipped in 11 points as La Salle's third scorer in double figures.

La Salle remains on the road this upcoming week as they visit the Rhode Island Rams for a 7 p.m. tip from the Ryan Center.
